Power Management

What is a UPS? Do I need one?

An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is a battery which provides 110V AC power, just like a normal power outlet. If your facility power fails, the UPS will continue to provide power to your FinishLynx system for a limited amount of time (depending on the size of the UPS, the number of devices plugged into the UPS and the amount of power they draw). The UPS plugs into a normal power outlet to charge.

If you want to be able to continue timing races in the event of a power failure or inconsistent power supply you need at least one UPS.

What do I plug into the UPS?

All devices which would need to keep operating in the event of a power failure must be plugged into a UPS. These devices include:
  • the timer enabled camera
  • the FinishLynx computer (only if it is a desktop) and monitor
  • the Ethernet hub (if used)
  • one camera from each alternate finish line (if used)
