On
the Girls team, at the New England Prep Schools Championship, Katie Dlesk
was the Champion in the 400 meters and the 300 hurdles. In the MIAA
championships, Jen Rippel won the 400m at the Cape Anne League
Championships, and she also won the 400m at the Class D State
Championships and she placed third at the Massachusetts All State
Championships. Rippel rounded out her season with a seventh place at the
New England Championships.
Hot on Rippel's trail was Vanessa Rodgers. Rodgers was second at the Class D Championships and seventh at the Massachusetts All State Meet. Together, Rippel and Rodgers were key members of the North Reading 4 x 800 meter team that smashed the school record and won the Class D Massachusetts State meet convincingly.
On
the boy's side, Mike Grant and Harry Norton were Massachusetts Class Meet
winners in the mile in Class A and D respectively. Grant passed up his
chance to run in the All State Mile to concentrate on helping the St
John's Prep 4 x800m team to a second place finish at the All State meet,
while Norton went on to clock up a 4:23 PR at the All State meet in
claiming fifth place. The Class A meet also saw fine performances from
John Gillespie who finished second in the 800 meters and was, with Grant,
a member of the St John's Prep 4x800 meter team which took the Class A
title; and also from Phil Shaw who ran a 9:44 in a fiercely competitive
two mile.
Russell Brown was Hew Hampshire State Meet winner in the 800m and also the 800m Champion at the New England Championships. Russell went on to compete at the adidas Outdoor Championships in North Carolina where he clocked a 1:53 in finishing 16th. Will Seidel was runner up at the NEPSTA championships in the 800 with a personal best 1:58.
In post-season track, the team got off to a good start to their 2002 Junior Olympic participation. Click here to see some images from the Meet.
